Kyiv Classical Accordion Concert

Our friends Igor and Oleksiy are back to entertain us again by playing their classic button accordions on June 15th, 7.30 pm, in the church. More details can be seen in “Events” but this year’s programme includes works by Strauss, Faure, Bach, Bizet and some contemporary accordion composers as well as traditional dance music from the Ukraine and Russia.

A collection will be taken at the end of the evening to help support those still affected by the Chernobyl disaster and the radiation fallout that occurred from this.

All are welcome.

Coffee Morning for Aedan

Linda is holding a coffee morning in the hall to raise funds for Aedan Harriet, the grandchild of one of our hall users.  Aedan is suffering from a serious brain tumour and though surgery has removed 60% of the tumour he has now been referred to the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute at Jacksonville in Florida for Proton therapy treatment. This treatment is similar to radiotherapy but is precisely targeted to destroy tumour tissue only. This means it causes less damage to healthy tissue than radiotherapy resulting in fewer treatment complications and less risk of brain damage.  This treatment should help shrink the tumour further but surgeons cannot remove the tumour altogether as it is connected to optic and spinal nerves.

The surgeons want Aedan, his mother Linsey and sister Shannon who is 6 to go and live in Florida for 3 months while Aedan is undergoing treatment.  As the treatment will be hard on Aedan they want all three of them to go as a family unit as it would be in Aedan’s best interests to be in a family environment.  He will undergo 6 weeks of treatment and 6 weeks recuperation with regular checkups. This is why they need the funds as they are unable to afford treatment and living costs in USA without help.

Lots of stalls on the day would help and it would be great if we had some donations for a home baking stall too. Donations for a raffle, a Tombola and a chocolate Tombola would also be welcome.

Anyone who can provide donations or help on the day in any way should speak to Linda Macaulay. Alternatively, come along and spend some money to help this cause!
