Harvest

Sunday 12th October is our Harvest Service. This year we’re collecting food items for our own Food For Thought project, so start saving things up now and bring them along on the day.

The items on the regular shopping list include: pasta, rice, cereal, UHT milk, tea, coffee, tinned meats, tinned fish, tinned veg and potatoes, pasta sauce……..anything that can be cooked with minimal effort and cost (remember some people using Food For Thought don’t have much in the way of cooking facilities or the money to pay for gas/electricity to run them).

Toiletries, soap, toothpaste etc are also always well received.

Book Club

After the initial planning meeting, the Book Club have decided the first book they want to read is “The Shack” by William P Young. The plot follows Mack, whose daugther Missy is abducted and murdered. For the following few years Mack is enveloped by “The Great Sadness.” One cold winters morning he receives a letter from God inviting him back to the shack where his daughter is believed to have been murdered, though her body was never found. At the shack, Mack meets God – Father Son and Holy Spirit, and over the course of a weekend, his encounter with them transforms his life.

We plan to meet again in The Haven on October 22nd at 7.30 pm to talk about our impressions of this book and to decide on what our next read should be. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come along.
